{"id":19,"date":"2009-01-29T12:04:28","date_gmt":"2009-01-29T12:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dolphinbooksellers.co.uk\/blog\/?p=19"},"modified":"2009-02-24T11:32:15","modified_gmt":"2009-02-24T11:32:15","slug":"marsh-award-for-childrens-literature-in-translation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.dolphinbooksellers.co.uk\/blog\/2009\/01\/29\/marsh-award-for-childrens-literature-in-translation\/","title":{"rendered":"Marsh Award for Children&#8217;s Literature in Translation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.dolphinbooksellers.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/tobyalonecover.jpg?resize=101%2C150\" alt=\"tobyaloneCover\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" width=\"101\" height=\"150\" align=\"left\" \/>Announcement of the 2009 winner<\/p>\n<p>At a ceremony at the English speaking Union on 20 January Sarah Ardizzone won the Marsh Award for Children's Literature in translation 2009, for Toby Alone by Daniel Pennac.<\/p>\n<p>There was great competition from some exceptionally talented authors and translators, including Henning Mankell's book When the Snow Fell and Francesco D'Adamo's book My brother Johnny.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Marsh award for Children's literature in translation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esu.org\/page.asp?p=1835\">The Marsh Award for Children's Literature in Translation <\/a> has been running since 1996, and is given biennially.<\/p>\n<p>It was designed to spotlight the diversity of translated fiction for young readers and to bring a richness to children's books into the English language from places way beyond our own lives and in cultures and countries we may never have the chance to visit.<\/p>\n<p>Our feelings at <a title=\"Home Page of Dolphin Books\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dolphinbooksellers.co.uk\">Dolphin <\/a> are that is just great to value books and cultures in countries that we have little experience of.
