One of our favourite Illustrators - Jackie Morris

Jackie is a highly gifted illustrator, a weaver of dreams and magical tales into pictures with a stunning quality and spirituality.

Fantastic both as illustrations on their own as well as part of 'spell binding' picture books. Take a look at Lord of the Forest for an insight into her work.

We first met Jackie at the Images of Delight exhibition in London, which was a great place to see some of the original work and to realise that her inspiration is taken from the countryside in which she lives.

Books illustrated by Jackie include work by Ted Hughes, Mary Hoffman, James Mayhew, Susan Summers,Terry Pratchett's Disc World Calendar and many others including Jackie's own children's stories.

About Jackie Morris

Jackie lives in a small cottage by the sea with her two children, two dogs and four cats. From the age of six she wanted to be an artist and was often in trouble for dreaming and drawing.

Fortunately for us she carried on with her dream and eventually went to Art College which led into becoming an illustrator for children's books.

She likes walking and watching, stories and magic, painting and dreaming, rowing and flying kites and swimming in the sea.

From insight into all that she sees around her, the sea, the fields and the wild animals Jackie captures images and thoughts and turns them into pictures of beauty and spirituality.

Her work includes a huge range of materials for children's books, card designs, calendars and magazine illustrations.

The web site at www.jackiemorris.co.uk has an amazing wealth of material, interest and information. You can see the pictures she is working on in her studio, a journal of her days, hopes and thoughts.

The collection of illustrated books and cards plus creative ideas for schools in using her books as resources for stretching imaginations.

The Barefoot Book of

Classic Poems

Illustrated by Jackie Morris

Publ: Barefoot Books

Introduced by Carol Ann Duffy, these 74 poems create an exquisite collection that traces our journey through life from birth to old age.

Along the way, the works of some of the finest poets in the English language celebrate all kinds of human experience: the wide-eyed wonder and adventure of childhood, the magnificence of the natural world and the animal kingdom, the mystery of love and the tragedy of war.

Each page is superbly illustrated by Jackie Morris, making it a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

The Ice Bear

Jackie Morris

Publ: Frances Lincoln Children's Books

Back in a time when people and animals lived together in harmony, a bear-child is stolen away from his mother.

A hunter and his wife find the child and, wrapping him in sealskin, they sing him songs of the ice, the wind and the great white bears. One day the child wanders off and a bear comes to take him back to his mother.

But by now the hunter is on the trail, determined to kill the creature that has taken his child… Set in the pristine polar regions of the Arctic, Jackie Morris's beautiful story reminds us that we are caretakers of these wild creatures and our actions directly affect their future.
